Scouts & Explorers volunteer to help refugees

Endurance Explorers and Weaverham Sea Scouts have been volunteering at Care UK –
Refugee Aid NW, now based at Chesterway, Northwich, since October 2017.
The Explorers have had several evening sessions at the depot, helping to sort, pack and
stack the donations that are received by the charity. Some of them have also been giving
up their time during school holidays. The biggest task is helping with container loading.
Since our initial involvement, we have helped load containers bound for Athens, Lesbos
and Chios. Its amazing how much you can get into a 40 foot container!
This week was particularly poignant; the container we helped to load was mainly filled with
medical supplies and medical aids bound for Syria. As well as the medical aid being sent
by container, the Charity was also able to transfer several thousand pounds to the Syria
Relief Charity so that they can buy food for those in such desperate need, particularly
around Ghouta, where the current situation is so dangerous for those still living there.
Care UK – Refugee Aid NW was initially set up in 2015 in response to the crisis facing
refugees, particularly those in Syria. Since then, they and their many volunteers and
partner organisations have sent 35 containers of aid to those in need, wherever they are.
Endurance Explorers and Weaverham Sea Scouts will be continuing their support for Care
UK. A real way to keep our Scout Promise – to help other people!
